Stormy Weather

Don't know why there are clouds up in the sky, stormy weather...

Thunderboomers woke us up early this morning! Mom likes to sleep with the radio on and she woke up around 4:30 this morning with storm warnings and a TORNADO WARNING!!! Actually, it wasn't an official warning, but a weather spotter had called the station and said he saw what appeared to be a funnel cloud in his area. It was in our town, but east of us so mom didn't panic. Sable was in bed with mom and head-butting her to get up. Mom doesn't know for sure if that was because he knew she was awake or if he was trying to wake her up. There was a lot thunder and some lightening, but she finally went back to sleep.

It's still raining now, but no storms! It sounds like March might be coming in like a lion, doesn't it?!

We had a nice weekend with mom. We got to snuggle with her and mom even saw me (Clarissa) playing with a crocheted mouse. I haven't done that for a long, long time!

Fiona is doing fine. She has her ultrasound tomorrow morning.

Serendipity got a claw trim yesterday morning. She wasn't happy about it, but her claws were like needles. She likes to make biscuits on mom and mom says it hurts!

We hope everyone had a good weekend and are ready to start a brand new week!

Our First Award Ever!!!!!!

We want to thank Admiral Hestorb for presenting us with our very first blog award! We are so excited! We also want to apologize to The Admiral for not accepting the award yesterday and posting it. Our typist/mom totally forgot and posted the Wordless Wednesday entry. So without further ado, here it is:

We are supposed to post 7 things about ourselves.

1. Ginger would rather scratch cardboard boxes than a scratching post.
2. Clarissa's shelter name was Chips.

5. Serendipity is the most talkative cat at our house.
6. Clarissa tries to bury the catnip mom puts out for the rest of us.
7. Capt. Puff will eat almost anything.

We are supposed to pass this on to 15 awesome bloggers, link to them, and let them know you have given them an award. This may be difficult because a lot of the blogs we read have already received this award. Let's see what we can do...

Mancat Monday: Two for the Price of One

One day mom walked into her bedroom with the flashy box. She knew she could always get a cute picture of some of us cats sleeping on her bed. Little did she know:

"Move along. There's nothing to see here," said Sable.

Yeppers! There he was, Sable the Punk, laying on this back with who knows what showing to the world! And who does she find sleeping next to him? Bandit, our Frito Bandito!

Saturday's News...

Mom can already tell a difference in Fiona's behavior since cutting the dosage in half on that appetite stimulant. She is more settled when she lays down and she doesn't keep rearranging herself.

We all got stinky goodness except Fiona tonight. She stuck her nose up in the air at it and ate the dry kibble. As long as she is eating, that's okay with mom.

Mom had to buy a new computer keyboard this afternoon. Fiona jumped up on her desk and while mom was petting her, she (mom) managed to knock over her coffee. It ran off the desk directly onto her keyboard. She was hoping she could save it, but when she tried to use it later she found out the shift key and the space bar didn't work. So...it was off to Office Depot for a new keyboard.

We've been having a quiet day at home with mom for the most part. We are hoping tomorrow will be just a good.

Sweet catnip dreams.

T.G.I.F.

Mom talked to Fiona's vet, Dr. Dickey, around noon today. Fiona has been restless after being on the appetite stimulant since Tuesday. The vet said that since it is actually an antihistamine it usually makes animals sleepy. However, she said it's not unusual for it to react just the opposite with kitties.

Fiona was getting 1/2 pill twice daily. Now she is going to get 1/2 pill once daily. Of course, once she starts eating regularly she will go off of the appetite stimulant.

We all appreciate your purrs and prayers. It means a lot to us.

Fiona and the Mystery Illness

Ms. Fiona has been back to the vet twice this week. Mom was concerned about her weight since it appears that she hasn't gained back that 1.5 lbs. she lost when she was sick. She was also starting the same behavior of trying upchuck something but only getting clear stuff out. Fiona saw our regular vet on Saturday. Her weight was still at 6.5 lbs. Mom figured that was o.k. news. At least she hadn't lost any more weight. Dr. R. suggest giving her canned stinky goodness to encourage her to eat a little more.

Saturday night and Sunday Fiona seemed to take a turn for the worse. She stopped eating again and was still going throw the yakking motions. Mom call the other vet on Monday morning. Dr. D. is who diagnosed Fiona's upper respiratory infection. She was able to get an appoint that evening. More blood was drawn for another cbc panel to be run. The good news was Fiona's blood work was normal, including her white cell count. Fiona's temperature was also normal. Dr. D. suggested that Fiona may have hyperthyroidism. She would send a blood sample to their other office where it could be tested the next day. In the meantime, she gave Fiona a vitamin B injection, an injection of anti-nausea medication, and some sub-q fluids. She sent Fiona home with another round of Baytril liquid antibiotic and told mom to keep Fiona on the appetite stimulant.

The thyroid test came back normal. Our next step is an abdominal ultrasound. That is scheduled for March 1 at 9:00am. Since we know that Fiona has a heart murmur, she is going to have a chest ultrasound done and an EKG at the same time. Hopefully that will tell us more.

Mom tried to syringe feed some A/D mush to Fiona last night. That was a total fail. So now mom is putting the food on her own finger and placing it on Fiona's tongue. She gets more of the food that way, although mom said her finger now smells like cat food even though she washes her hands. Fiona is feisty and complains and struggles, which is a good sign. Mom isn't home during the day, so it's unknown if Fiona is eating any of the dry kibble. She gave Fiona a little of the A/D food three different times last night and again this morning.

One thing mom has noticed is the Fiona has become very clingy/needy. The past two nights she has stuck to mom like a burr. She seems to have a hard time getting comfortable when she sleeps in mom's lap, but she is o.k. when she lays on the back of the chair or in the bed.

We have 12 days to go before the ultrasound. But we will keep you posted.

Last but not Least: Introducing Spunky

You have met Bandit, Batman, Clarissa, Daisy, Fiona, Fred, Ginger, Jazzpurr, Lily, Memphis, Panda, Puff, Sable, and Serendipity. Now you get to meet me: SPUNKY!

My name is Spunky, I'm 7 years old, and my biological sisters are Ginger and Panda. Mom said before that she thinks Puff may be a half-brother to us. My original home was in Cleveland and I've been in my forever home since June 2007. I'm a big boy and weigh in somewhere between 17 and 18 lbs. My first human mom said I'm not too bright, but I'm full of love. I'm not sure what she meant by the "not to bright" part, but I love to love on mom.

My sister, Ginger, and I are very close. When our new mom said she could take two of the five of us that needed to be re-homed, she was only going to take Ginger and me. We can't be separated. Of course, mom being a big softie and all, she ended up bringing all five of us home with her. She also brought a little whipper snapper kitten that was only 7 weeks old with her. That little girl was going to a new home with someone else and mom was only the transport.

Here is a picture of Ginger and me under the Christmas tree. That's Ginger licking my head:

My other sister, Panda, and I don't get along at all. She hates me. Of course, Panda hates almost every fur so I try not to take it purrsonally. Mom says I know how to push Panda's buttons. I think that means I tease her because I know she hates it! Isn't that what brothers are suppose to do?

If I'm not cuddling with Ginger, I'll sleep on the cat tree or mom's bed. When mom goes to bed at night, I'll come in for some scritches and love. My new habit is to give her sandpaper kisses on her cheek when she is trying to go to sleep. She wasn't to happy about me licking her eyelid though!

Here I am on the cat tree:

And here I am snuggling with Batman:

I'm not quite a true "cow cat". Although my patches are almost black, my tail and nose definitely show the tabby stripes. Panda is the only true "cow cat" in the family.

So now you've met all of us! Mom said she isn't adding any more to the family. She has her hands full with 15 kitties.

Purrs and Headbonks!

Introducing Serendiptiy

Hekko everybody! My name is Serendipity, and I live with Clarissa. You guys can call me "Seren" because that's my nickname. My special nickname that only mom can use is "Dippity Doo".

I moved into my forever home in October 2004. I was being fostered, along with Jazzpurr, by a very nice lady named Animal Gamball. I'll tell you about her in a minute. We had to spend an extra week with her because she found out I hadn't had my ladygardenectomy yet. We came to our forever home the day after I had my surgery.

Jazzpurr and I used to be very close and we would wrestle and play and chase each other around. Now we barely acknowledge each other. That makes mom kind of sad. But Jazzpurr is a few years older that me and she has mellowed out. I still like to run around the house and chase fairies and my other brofurs and sisfurs. The only "bad" habit I have (and it's not that bad) is suckling on mom or my uncle's shirt when I lay on either of them. I'll knead and make biscuits and leave a big wet circle on their clothing!

I'm a diluted (not delusional) calico. I love a lot of attention from my people. I sometimes nap on my mom's bed, but usually I'll hang out in my uncle's room. I sort of adopted him. Most nights I'll be found sleeping in the rocking chair in his room. I get along with my furblings most of the time, although I've been known to smack them once in awhile. Mom said it is that calico attitude of mine. Both Clarissa & Fiona act much the same way as me. I'm 7 years old now and pretty set in my ways!

This is the only picture mom could find of me for now. She caught me drinking milk from her glass one morning. It's a great shot of me licking my chops!

I know she has some nice pictures somewhere!

Tattoo Tuesday

We decided to share another one of mom's tattoos this morning. But this one might need a little explaining. You know since mom loves us kittens (albeit BIG KITTENS now) and she loves Alice Cooper, most people online know her as "Coopkitten". Mom said this is what her alter-ego looks like:

She is wearing Alice Cooper's top hat and holding his crop. This tat is on mom's left shoulder. The work was done by a fellow named Adam who works at Acme Ink in Louisville, KY. Mom had this one done in the spring of 2008. Adam took the picture when he was finished. You can see the redness surrounding the tattoo and some of the blue/purple transfer ink on her back.

Purrs,
Clarissa & Co.

p.s.

Panda has been getting her eye drops at least twice a day. The hardest part of the procedure is just getting her. Panda has caught on, so when she sees mom enter the bedroom she jumps down from her feather pillow bed and runs under the bed! Mom tricked her twice yesterday by catching her in the bathroom. Now she's caught on to that! But the good news is her eye is looking much better!

Vet visits for Clarissa & Panda today!

Me (Clarissa) and Panda went to the v*t this morning. Mom is behind on some of our vaccines. Panda had to get her rabies vaccine and that other one that covers a bunch of stuff. It's a good thing she went today too! The vet noticed that Panda's right eye was inflamed. Looks like she may have conjunctivitis now. Mom has to put a drop of medicine in her eye 3x daily. The v*t did the first dose. Mom just did the 2nd one a little while ago...and now Panda is hiding. She is afraid this may be an issue. Please purr that it isn't. Panda weighs 16 lbs and is very very strong. Please purr that she will cooperate!

I had to have my ears cleaned. They were so DIRTY!!!! I get that yeasty build-up that has something to do with allergies. I also got my Depomedrol injection so I'll stop chewing on my belly and making it raw.

We both got claw trims too! Panda was so good and didn't complain one bit - except on the ride to and from the office while she was in the carrier. I was quiet in the carrier but I complained loudly at the office! I growled and hissed at the vet a lot!

Sable The Punk, House Panther Extraordanaire

It's about time I was allowed to introduce myself to everyone! My name is Sable the Punk, but I'm really just a big momma's boy! I came to my forever home in October 2001. I was a little squirt, only eight weeks old, when mom brought me home. I was the last kitten left from a litter that some little girls were trying to find homes for. Mom already had Clarissa, who just a little over a year old. She really wasn't looking for another kitten, but there I was.

Here I am at 9 weeks old:

The little girls said my name was "Punk" but mom didn't like it. She said she was afraid I would live up to the name. She debated between the names "Kohl" and "Sable". She finally decided on Sable for me. Most of the time she calls me Boo Kitty.

Mom says I drove Clarissa crazy by always wanting to be with her. I missed my catmom and I guess Clarissa was the next best thing. Clarissa was a great substitute mom. She even taught me how to catch those big cave crickets when they get in the house.

Here is me and Clarissa laying in front of the t.v. cabinet. There is an air vent that blows warm air there:

When I was younger I never wanted to be held or cuddled, but I've mellowed out with age. I love to sleep on mom's left when she is in the recliner. Fred will sleep on her right. That's when mom calls me "Basement Cat" and Fred "Ceiling Cat". I guess that's because I am black and Fred is white.

I'm long and lean, and I used to be a great mouser! I caught at least four of them when they got in our house a long time ago. Once mom figured out how they were getting in and closed up the hole she ruined my fun!

I get along with my furblings except for Batman. I don't like him and I will hiss and run away from him. Mom doesn't understand why and I'm not telling!

I've had a number of UTI's in the past, and I have even peed on mom when she was in bed to let her know I wasn't feeling well. As long as I stay on the special food I don't have any problems now.

I'm Capt. McPufferson's First Mate on his airship, The Feline Fantasy. I like to help with the rigging and climb the ropes.

I'll be 9 years old this fall. Here I am all grown up:

It's been a pleasure meeting everyone. I hope you have a great weekend!

Ahoy!

Mom's Tatooed Feet

Catsparella suggested that we post a picture of mom's matching kitty tattoos on her feet, so here it is:

That picture was taken by Travis King at Body Art Emporium right after he had finished the work and cleaned up the area. We know you probably have questions, so we are going to turn the post over to our mom.

Mom: Thank you, kitties. I had the work done in June or July of 2008. I purchased the flash art stencils for the tattoos from an online site called Bullseye Tattoos. Travis made transfers of the artwork on a special paper, applied the outlines to my feet, and began the work. It took about an hour for him to ink the outlines. He gave me about a 30 minute break afterward. It took another hour or so for him to fill in the color. It did hurt, but not nearly as bad as I had expected it to hurt. The worse part of either tattoo was getting inked around both cats' ears and the top of their heads. Once the work was completed, it felt like the tops of my feet had been sunburned. I did have some minor swelling that evening, and I don't think I wore shoes for the entire weekend. It took a good four weeks for the work to heal. I really need to have the tattoos re-inked, but I keep putting it off.

I have a total of 15 tattoos, 8 of which are some type of cat or cat-related. I'll share pictures of them in the future if the cats will let me!

Clarissa: Ok, so that's our mom. She turned 50 last summer and still thinks she is 25 sometimes. Go figure.

We hope all of friends who were effect by that massive storm that crossed the mid-west and into the northeast are safe and warm!

Clarissa & Co.

Tuesday Toesday

Clarissa toes!

And Clarissa toes with mom's toes! MOL

That's a boy kitty tattooed on the top of mom's foot. She has a girl kitty tattooed on top of the other foot.
