Vera the Pitbull Pup Needs Uber Prayers and Purrs

Mom read about Vera the pitbull's injuries and saw a picture of her on Facebook yesterday morning. She got the rest of the story when she let us visit MeowMail. Below is what our friend, Tootsie, posted about Vera:

Tonight a woman rushed her six month old pitbull in to Moms work. The pup had gotten out the gate and went to the neighbors. There, it grabbed a rooster. Rooster was not hurt. The neighbor used scissors and scalped the pup and cut off her ear. Literally. She cut the other ear. This pup licked Moms face and wagged her tail the whole time that Mom cared for her. Please say purrs for this sweet sweet pup. Her name is Vera. The neighbor was arrested.

And here is an update on Vera

Vera had surgery today. They stitched the half-cut ear, and closed the wounds where the other ear used to be. They tried to pull the scalped area closed just a little and put tension stitches in to pull the skin and make it go toward the middle so it can scar up.

Veras mom called the news. Hopefully lots of people hear about it and everyone rallies for Vera. Hopefully Vera can remain brave and actually heal. That is what we hope. And we remain marveled that vera can still share love with the human race.

We have posted a picture of Vera taken at the vet's office. It is a link only because the PICTURE IS GRAPHIC. We know it will upset some of our readers. You have been warned:

We will keep everyone updated on Vera.

A brief break from the hots!!!

Hi kitties!!! It stormed here yesterday afternoon and the temps dropped about 10 degrees. It's still humid, but not as bad as it has been. Mom said it wasn't horribly unpleasant when she left for work this morning.

Not much to tell you from our house. Mostly it's staying inside and cool with the drapes drawn and the air conditioning running. Mom misses looking outside as much as we do, but keeping the curtains closed helps keep the house cooler.

Daisy had her yearly check up on Saturday morning. She weighed in a 9.4 lbs. Our vet said that was a good weight and she has been holding steady there. Her heart and lungs sounded great, nothing unusual was found. She received her rabies vaccine and her distemper vaccine. She also got a claw trim.

Mom made an appointment to take Fred in for his check up and vaccine(s) in two weeks.

Stay cool kitties!!!

Mancat Monday: Spunky

We are going to have a long run of the HOTS this week. The humidity levels are high and mom said it feels like she is walking through soup when she steps outside. We had two rain showers come through yesterday. But instead of cooling things down the rain only made the air feel more heavy and sticky.

Spunky is giving us a big yawn and going back to sleep in the air conditioned comfort of our home!!!

The Grand Flood

Wow kitties!!! There was a flood near mom's workplace on Monday night!  It was sort of a man made flood though. A HUGE water main pipe broke and the water rushed out. The pipe was 48" in diameter and was quite old. The news story said it was probably installed in the 1920s. Because it was a main water pipe it effected a wide area. Here is a video from the University of Louisville's security camera of the flooding:

Did you see how the water kept getting higher?!!!

Mom didn't have to go to work on Tuesday. The University shut of the chilled water that runs the air conditioning on campus. Also, the campus had no drinkable water. Mom said the powers that be did the wise thing and canceled classes and shut down the offices for the day.  She had to go back to work yesterday.

This is the most exciting thing that has happened around here for awhile!

Easy Like A Sunday

Well, well, well. It appears that Blogger has changed their format. Why do they mess with something that ain't broke. Now we have to learn the new stuff. That might make us a crabulated!

It's been a nice leisurely Sunday. Mom has been  home with us all day. She's been knitting and she watched a movie on t.v. Now she is coloring her head fur. The color is suppose to be some shade of red. Cross your claws that it turns out all right.

We have a picture to share with you. Remember the gray foster kittens that stayed with us? Mom has a picture of Shorty & Pippa. They are about 14 weeks old now and they will be going to their first adoption event next weekend. Their foster mom is thinking about offering a 2 for 1 deal in hope that they go together.

That's Pippa in the front and Shorty in the back. Aren't they cutie patooties?!!!

Happy July!

We hope everyone State side had a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday. We spent the holiday home with our uncle while mom was away in North Carolina. She left on Thursday, June 30 and returned home on Tuesday, July 5. Mom visited our Aunt Torchy and our cousins, Wick, Gracie, and Alfred. This was her first meeting with Alfred and she said he really should have been named "Squishy."

Mom said Alfred is the one of the sweetest kitties she has ever met. He slept with her several nights, and even slept on her according to Aunt Torchy. Mom woke up the first morning with Alfred wrapped around the top of her head! She said he was purring and purring and rubbing his face all over her head. Alfred gets along well with both Wick and Gracie. He and Wick like to wrestle and both of the boys LOVE the laser pointer. Gracie totally ignores the laser pointer.

Mom loves to visit Aunt Torchy but she said the drive is brutal. It's approximately 9 hours. She didn't have to drive in rain this time so she made better time. Don't tell anyone, but mom has a "lead foot" too.

One last thing...Mom asked us to thank everyone for their well wishes concerning her fall and her scraped up knee. It has healed up nicely, although the scars are ugly. She is hoping those will fade with time. She promises to be more careful in the future!
