Our blind sisfur, Lily Rose, had her quarterly checkup with her specialist this morning. Overall the report on her eyes was good. Her eye pressure was good, but she does have some blood vessels appearing on the surface of one eye.
Her doctor told mom to continue giving Lily the Azopt solution. She gets one drop in each eye once per day. Mom is to add the Idoxurine solution drops. Lily was getting them for awhile. Lily will get those drops (one in each eye) twice per day. Her next eye check up will be on May 18.
Lily has been having a little discharge from her eyes, but the doctor couldn't find anything wrong. It could be allergy related or it could be part of the feline herpes virus. Lily had a sneezing fit on the way to the vet and another one on the way home.
Mom has also noticed some thin patches of fur on Lily. This happened once before. It is not fleas. Recently she had a bald patch show up on her cheek. That fur is growing back, but she now has an almost bald patch on her back. It also looks like she is getting a bald patch on her chest. Mom is going to keep an eye on her. If the spots get worse, or if she develops more of the, mom will take her to our regular vet.
We have to keep mom on her toes!!!

Happy Friday
We don't know who is happier about it being Friday: we cats or our mom. Mom is happy because she doesn't have to get up at 6:30am (although Sable will attempt to get her up that earlier). We are happy because she will be home for a couple of days.
Fred is doing well. He isn't the most cooperative when it comes to getting his fluids. He may only weigh 5 lbs., but it takes mom and her brother to hold him. He has gotten free a couple of times and pulled the sub-q needle out. He was fine, but the solution was spraying all over until mom could clamp it off.
Lily gets eyedrops every morning, Fred gets fluids every other day, and I get a prednisone pill every other day. It's like an infirmary around here sometimes. But mom said she doesn't mind doing it. If she ever takes a trip she will have to board Fred. She can get one of her friends to take care of me and Lily, but she wouldn't ask anyone to "stick" Fred. Her best friend couldn't give fluids to her own kitty, so mom knows she won't be able to give them to Fred. But as mom says, she'll cross that bridge when she gets to it.
It's been so hot in Louisville. The daily high temperature has been in the 90s, and the humidity has been high. It makes the air feel heavy and sticky. And the "heat index" has been over 100. The weather pundits said that tomorrow, although the temperature should be about 96, the heat index will make it feel like it is 106! That is too hot for anyone!!! We are glad we are indoor cats. Mom said she may put out some water for the squirrels and bunnies that come in our yard.

White Wednesday
It's White Wednesday with our sister, Lillian Rose DeWinter, Lily Rose was adopted by mom in April 2008. She spotted her at Feeder's Supply, where the Kentucky Humane Society has adoptable animals. She fell in love with her (and Fred).
For those who don't know about Lily Rose, she is about 12 years old now. Lily has one blue eye and one gold eye, and she is claw less. Whoever had her before us had all four of her feet declawed. Her backstory is she was found outside, hiding on someone's front porch. That person turned her in.
Lily has had some health issues in the past, regarding her left ear. That is the side with the blue eye, too. She developed an abscess that would swell on the left side of her neck. It would eventually drain out of her left ear. The last time it happened our vet kept her for x-rays and put a drain tube in the area. The x-rays showed deformed bones in her ear. Bacteria would get behind those bones and then cause an infection. Lily had surgery to remove those bones and her ear was stitched closed. One of the risks of surgery was possible nerve damage to that side of her face. Lily is unable to close her left eye all the way, and the pupil is dilated. Luckily it did not effect that side of her mouth and she can eat normally.
Mom says Lily is a diva and we believe it. She loves people, but she doesn't like the rest of us too much. She tolerates most of us, but she does not like Johnny or Cash at all.

My Mini Movie
Yesterday I mentioned that mom made a video of me on Monday night. I was laying in her lap and having my nightly self-grooming session. You can see Lily on the foot of the recliner, and then Serendipity (Seren) decided that she needed some screen time. Please forgive mom for filming me washing my lady cat parts. Oh, and mom had the t.v. on so you'll hear Family Guy in the background.

Happy New Year
The whole gang of furs at my house wanted to wish everyfur and their purrents a Happy New Year. We wish everyone a year full of noms, treats, playtime, naps, love and good health!
Now, I have some troubling news about my sisfur, Lily. Lily was feeling a bit puny for several days before Christmas. She was sleeping more than usual, and mom didn't notice her eating or drinking quite as much as she usually does. Lily perked up on Christmas night and by Saturday morning, she was back to her usual loving, sweet self.
And that's when mom noticed it. The fur beneath her left ear was soaking wet and had some dark gunk in it. Mom got some cotton swabs to gently wipe out her ear and she didn't like what she saw at all. The gunk looked liked pus with dark stuff and a tiny little specks of blood. Our regular vets were out of the office, so it was off to the emergency vet's office.
The emergency vet checked Lily over. The good news is her temperature was normal and her weight was normal. The bad news is she and mom both noticed that Lily's face and neck were swollen beneath her ear. The vet had to shave her furs over the swelling, and Lily was an angel about it. There were no visible bites or scratches. But the one thing she said was the swelling looked and felt like an abscess and would have to be drained.
Lily was given a mild sedative and something for pain, then taken to another room to have the procedure done. While she was back their Lily was also given sub-q fluids. The vet said she was dehydrated. She was also given an antibiotic injection. Lily was sent home with instructions to keep the incision clean but open (by using a warm compress) so that it would continue to drain.
Lily was fine all week. She ate and drank and was back to normal. The only change in her behavior is wanting to stay close to mom. (She is lay in front of the computer monitor right now). She had a follow-up with our regular vet yesterday. He cleaned her ear again. Some dark gunk was in it, but it wasn't oozing like it did the previous Saturday. Unfortunately there is still some infection there so Lily had to have another antibiotic injection.
The troubling news is neither the emergency vet nor our regular vet can tell us how this happened in the first place. The best case scenario would be to have the infection clear up and Lily not have another problem with it. However, she's had this drainage happen a couple of times before. That means it could be a chronic issue with her. The worse case scenario would be surgery to remove her middle ear. Lily is deaf on that side, so losing her hearing isn't the scary part. The scary part is the vet said part of her skull would have to be removed to get to her middle ear.
Please keep Lily in your purrs and prayers that this surgery won't have to take place. She is such a sweet, gentle girl. None of us want to put her through that.
