Remembering Mr. Kenya

Mom was looking at some pictures she had saved in Photobucket and ran across this one:

Mr. Kenya, Dir. of Rodent Control, Ret. - Dec. 2007

This is Mr. Kenya, Director of Rodent Control, Retired. He lived in and around the gift shop at the botanical gardens in Phoenix, Arizona. Mom visited the gardens on her first trip to Phoenix in December 2007. She had just left the gift shop and sat down on a short wall to take a rest. Mr. Kenya was soaking up some late afternoon sun on the walkway. He ended up jumping up on the wall and sitting beside mom for a bit.

You can't tell it from the picture, but Mr. Kenya was a very old kitty. Around 19 if mom remembers correctly. Mom said if you saw him in person you would know that he was an old man. One of the gift shop ladies said Mr. K used to hunt rodents and rabbits when he was young. He spent most of his time sleeping now.

Mom took a few pictures of him, scratched him behind his ears, and then she had to go. About a month later she called the gift shop to inquire about purchasing an item she had seen. She was talking to the lady about Mr. Kenya and found out that he had crossed the Bridge on Christmas Eve. Mom thought that was the perfect time for this furry angel to go to his real forever home.

When mom got off the phone, she emailed copies of the pictures she had taken to the lady she had spoken with. The lady emailed her back and thanked her for sending them and said she was so glad to have them.

Mom's been back to Phoenix several times since then, but not back to the botanical gardens. She's often wondered if they have hire a new Director of Rodent Control. She said it would be wonderful if they did, although no one will replace Mr. Kenya.

Intruders!!!!

Yes indeed! We had two intruder kitties in our backyard yesterday! We have never seen these two before. The skittish one was solid black, and its companion was a floofy light gray with a cute pink nose! Mom opened the window and started talking to them. The black one stood out in the yard and watched. The gray kitty came up to the middle of the patio and just looked at mom, but didn't act like it was afraid. The one thing we noticed about both kitties were their eyes. Both of them had emerald green eyes!

Mom says she saw a black kitty down the block from us the other evening and wonders if the black kitty in the yard are one and the same. We are pretty sure they both belong to someone in the neighborhood. Mom says they better watch out or we might have two new kitties in our household!

Whiskerhump Wednesday

El Puma Magnifico

Today we wanted to share a picture of our friend, El Puma Magnifico. El Puma was from Puerto Rico. We are pretty sure that El Puma was fluent in both Spanish and English, but he would always chat with us in a combination of the two. We are sorry to say that El Puma crossed the Bridge several years ago. But we always will remember him fondly. When we see him again we will be sure to give him muchos besos en la nariz (many kisses on the nose)!

Caught In The Act

Bandit can be a shy boy and Daisy is definitely a pushy girl. This is what mom caught them up to one night.

Daisy: I must wash your ears!!!
Bandit: Okay, Daisy.

Daisy: What? Washing Bandit? What gave you that idea?
Bandit: Nope...nothing happening here.

Mancat Monday: The Old Spice Cat

I think mom has helped me post this picture before. She did the caption on I Can Has Cheezburger. She said I had the right cattitude for the caption!

We spent the weekend with mom while she watched basketball. Her exact words now are "my brackets are screwed". She does have the University of Kentucky winning the championship.

We had a lot of window whiffie time during the day on Saturday. Then the storms came with lots of boomers and lightening and mom shut the windows. She had to turn on the a/c yesterday because it was just getting to darn warm. It's hard to believe it's mid-March and we are already having some mild hots.

Hope you kitties have a great Monday!!!

Our hearts our heavy today....

Our mom found out for sure this morning that one of her Facebook friend's lost her oldest daughter in that terrible bus accident in Switzerland. Jennifer was returning from a skiing trip with her school when the bus crashed into a wall in the tunnel. It makes our mom very sad. Jennifer lived in Belgium with her parents and two younger sisters. We are purring for her family and friends.

On a much happier note, our weather is unseasonably warm - around 80 again today. We've been able to have window whiffies when mom gets home from work every night this week. We are sure to have some more window time tonight.

Saying Farewell to Another Friend: Admiral Magellan

Admiral Magellan. ? - March 3, 2012

We are saying a sad farewell to our dear friend, Admiral Magellan. We met this admiral at the Meowmail Message Board almost 12 years ago. He shared many adventures of his travels on the high seas with us, and we even made few trips with him. We don't know how old 'Gellan was went he took his final journey, but we know he was older than me (Clarissa) and I'm almost 12 now.

We just know he is visiting with Admiral Hestrob and sharing stories with her!!!

We Are Safe in Kentucky

We want to let all of our friends know that we are safe after the storms roared through here on Friday. Mom was on her way to northern Indiana and got caught in a downpour of rain and hail just south of Indianapolis on Friday afternoon. She did arrive safely at her destination later that afternoon.

We are purring for all of those who have been left homeless and lost loved ones in that horrible tornado outbreak on Friday. Although our hometown wasn't hit, about twenty minutes north of us, Henryville, Indiana was virtually destroyed. Mom saw some of the destruction on her drive home yesterday.
