The Rissa Report

TGIF!!! It means it's Friday and we will have mom home for the weekend. We hope that means lots of lap time!

I heard mom on the phone this morning. She was making an appointment for me to see my vet on Monday afternoon. Mom was petting me last night and she felt a little lump on my left side. She said it is probably nothing more than a fatty cyst, but she wants to have it check out. I had a tiny one develop once before and it went away on its own.

Sable seems to have a bit of a cold. He has been sneezing and mom thought it might be allergies with the weather change and such. He had a sneezing fit this morning and blew cat snot. Before mom had a chance to grab a paper towel to wipe his nose off, Sable had already cleaned it off himself. Mom thought that was gross and told him so. She just doesn't understand that's how we cats do things. Anymew, Sable's appetite is good, he isn't feverish, and he is still his sweet self so mom isn't too worried about him at this time.

The daytime temps are suppose to be in the 60s over the weekend, so we are hoping we will get some window whiffin' time during the day.

We hope everyone has a great weekend!

Purrs,
Clarissa

I was a naughty cat last night: Daisy Thistlechaser

Mom had gone up to Cincinnati for the "Time Traveler's Ball" last night and it was about 2am when she got home. She was tired and cranky because she didn't have a very good time. And I had to add to her crankiness because I bolted out the front door as she was coming in. She didn't even see me get out because I was so quick! My uncle saw me and tattled! Mom had to go back outside and watch for me so I wouldn't run off. She knew I was in the bushes beside the front steps. Luckily for her a loud car drove down the street and my uncle happened to have the front door open. I heard that car and I ran right back in the house! Mom fussed at me for running out to begin with. I don't know why she was so mad at me.

Purrs,
Daisy T.

Never Forget

Clarissa's mom here, today. Clarissa was just a little over one year old on Sept. 11, 2001. At that time she was still an "only child". I had left my dad and brother at home and I had gone to work at the University of Louisville. I was at my desk when one of my co-workers said, "A plane has hit the World Trade Center." We all thought it was a small plane. It didn't seem like much time had passed until he called out and said the second tower had been struck. That's when we pulled out the t.v. and turned on some news.

I honestly don't remember if I cried when the towers fell. I think I felt more shock and disbelief. How could this be happening? Who would do such a thing? Of course, the Pentagon being struck, and the fourth plane going down in Pennsylvania sent more horror through our office.

I work near Louisville International Airport (aka Standiford Field). Plane after plane flew over the university as they came in to land. And then the silence was deafening. We were so used to hearing UPS planes and passenger jets flying over the campus. My home is not far from Bowman Field, which is a smaller airport than handles small planes. The skies were quiet over my neighborhood, too. And to see the airport in total darkness night after night was eerie.

When the funerals started for the firemen who lost their lives is when my tears really started. They were covered on the news and each time I heard "Amazing Grace" played on the bagpipes I just fell apart. When the university had a memorial service the following week I cried some more.

I can remember my dad talking about the shock and horror and anger after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The attack on September 11, 2001 was my Pearl Harbor. It is a day I will never forget.

Fall Is In The Air!

Kitties! It feels like fall here! It is a great relief after have temps between 100 and 102 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday! A cold front came through on Sunday night and yesterday the high was in the upper 60s. It's suppose to be in the 60s and 70s for the remainder of this week. We will still have some days in the 80s before fall really sets in, but for now this is perfect weather.

Jazzpurr had her annual exam and got her vaccines on Saturday. She has a short, stocky build and weighed in at 12 lbs. Mom told the vet that Jazz was the perfect size for Thanksgiving dinner! Hee hee! She would never have Jazz for dinner though. Mom loves her too much!

Fred gained another half ounce, and me (Clarissa) had to get my depo shot because I started chewing on my belly again.

Mom opened some windows yesterday so there was a lot of whiffin' going on at our house. We really liked that a lot!

We hope everyone had a great weekend and a great Labor Day holiday if you live in the USA!
